Once in a while, I heard a man's voice way below Angie's voice in level. As for the health insurance bill tells me the answer now is "Just say NO!" I am all for replacing a few "blue dogs" and some DINOs.
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:15 LinearBob

Should we be saying no to Joe or no to anything that doesn't have an independent robust public option?

hi guys - sorry i can't listen, talk, and blog all at the same time
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:16 Levana from HCAN
6:17
LinearBob:
Angie -- I think we have seen too many sacrifices! Who else has sacrificed? It looks to me like the insurance companies really did "WIN!" and we are going to be screwed because there will be no honest broker selling insurance without a 30% overhead built in.
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:17 LinearBob
6:18
Patrick:
Levana, are you guys planning any mass actions or protests?
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:18 Patrick
6:18
Levana from HCAN:
We don't have any mass protests or national actions planned in DC
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:18 Levana from HCAN
6:19
Levana from HCAN:
However, we will have actions in front of Senate offices all around the country on Dec. 17th
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:19 Levana from HCAN
6:20
Levana from HCAN:
It's called Round -the-clock for reform and people will hold 24 hour vigils outside the offices
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:20 Levana from HCAN
6:20
Patrick:
Have you guys thought about collaborating with other groups to combine email databases and create a grassroots protest either online or brick and mortar or preferably both?
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:20 Patrick
6:20
Lars:
Isn't the Progresive Caucus in the House committed to voting down any bill w/out a public option?
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:20 Lars
6:21

December 17th? What time? Coordinated across the country to be in sync or (for example) 12pm in your local time zone?

Medicare for 55 and up is a win win for the insurance company buy removing a demographic that is more expensive and still gives them all the younger/healthier folks.
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:22 Lars
6:22
Patrick:
Hmmm... Although I love civil disobedience and actions, I think that might be risky Py. Karma forbid that something should happen and they use a payment lapse to justify cancellation.
Wednesday December 9, 2009 6:22 Patrick

Levana from HCAN:

Lars -- I heard there are 2 conditions that must be met to qualify for the Medicare at 55 option -- They are 1) You are not covered by any other insurance, and 2) Your income cannot be more than 150% of the federal poverty level. That is way TOO restrictive.

Actually, the CBO scores that come out at the end of the week will determine many parts of any compromise. That's why it is important to contact Senators now and let them know what you think is important.

Angie -- I call it a sell out! Now we are looking at having to replace Joe Mentum and the other DINOs. We have some senators (Barbara Boxer for one, I think) who could also throw a wrench into the Senate works and put a stop this "Rip off".

[Comment From dumpdump: ]
Come on, HCAN is nothing more than centrist astro turf reformists like the OFA. Banner add reads Historic legislation! Historic in that it took a public option that would have included 120 milion+ to 6 million. This is so like the crap that Obama sent out after his address to the Senate that never mentioned "public option" I support the PDA , PNHP, and Mad as Hell Doctors, true grass roots reform! This centrist baby step approach to health care reform is BS! Single Payer is the only solution so Scrap the Crap! Health care not Politics!

WHAT??? The public option was NEVER something to get excited about? OK, smarty -- WHAT, pray tell, will keep the insurance companies from gouging everyone? And with the Medicare age as qualified as I understand it is, means MOST people age 55 and above, cannot sign up for it, because they are bared either by having too much income or having access to other insurance. Either of those is a disqualifying condition.

Congress may lose seats, but where will they lose seats? I mean what can the Republicans offer the electorate? Lower taxes? That can't happen without crippling government to a point where it won't be able to operate. They can't offer anything to the electorate but hate or fear. They'll get 20 percent.

Right LB, but I don't think the Dems have fear in them, especially now. The Repubs have nothing to offer. They'll lose Dems where progressives pound blue dogs down enough to swing moderates/independents away from them. I'm not making a judgment on right or wrong, I just think that'll be the result.

As much as I relate to Mike's anger, I don't like that model. It plays too much into the right wing anger junkie audience, and you end up with a lot of pissed off people who sing soprano in one another's choir.

Martha, I think Mike is closer to rush than they are, in that a lot of it is just a lot of staged anger and pathos aimed at a ready and hungry audience. Ed is more informational. Randi is a hybrid.

Wednesday December 9, 2009 7:37 Gordon Whiting

Shoq -- HD has a serious coverage problem. Most HD AM stations do not go as far as their analog counterpart. On FM, it's equally bad. Try listening to an HD FM station broadcasting from San Francisco in San Jose, a distance of 50 miles, and you will see what I mean.

If America is really a left/center nation why is it that right wing radio dominates? It has to be corporate media's desire to present that message.

That's true., but there again, it's only an issue if looking for the same kinds of audiences as the past. The long tail will apply to radio, just as it has the web.

Norm in S.F.:
The main problem is the very structure of capitalism--every investment has to be as lucrative as the best investment. The old license ownership rules protected broadcasting from those pressures.

LinearBob:
Good Evening and 73 to everyone. Pythos -- the FCC has a lot to do with International treaties, among other things, because of the nature of radio signals and how they propagate. There are treaties that define how much interference can be sent from one country to another, and at night, AM can literally go around the world.
